Biography

Emilija Kortus embarked on her musical journey at the age of 5 in Belgrade, Serbia, igniting a deep love for the violin that would shape her captivating career. Recognized for her exceptional talent from a young age, Emilija claimed numerous prizes, including the prestigious First National Competition of Young Violinists 'Société Générale,' where she impressed renowned judges with her extraordinary artistry. Scholarships from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Serbia and the Ministry of Culture and Sports acknowledged her dedication and musical achievements.

Continuing her studies at The Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade and later in Leipzig, Germany, Emilija had the privilege of working with esteemed professors, including David Takeno, Maria Spengler, and Carolin Widmann. These influential mentors helped refine her technique and nurture her distinctive musical style, characterized by her expressive interpretations and captivating stage presence.

Emilija has captivated audiences with her performances as a sought-after chamber musician, collaborating with renowned artists and gracing prestigious stages worldwide. Her remarkable talent has also led her to become a regular concertmaster, sharing the stage with esteemed artists.

Emilija's passion for music extends to her solo performances, with an eagerly anticipated debut CD recording on the horizon, generously funded by 'Neustart Kultur Deutschland.' Her remarkable talent and dedication have been recognized with the honor of playing a violin from Francesco Ruggieri (1680), generously loaned to her by the University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig since June 2020.
